Press release on behalf of Pakistan Mine Workers Federation (PMWF) on marble mine accident occurred on 22-02-2020 killing nine mine workers and eight injured in Bam Pokha marble mining sector at district Buner, Khyber Pukhtunkwa.
PMWF has great concern on surface marble mine accident and demand for tripartite inquiry of this accident. Moreover,the federation as already been made appeal to chief minister of kpk for a meeting to discuss the dangerous situation of mining sector.
Federation also appeal to the stake holders to perform their duties and responsibilities.In this regard some guidelines are as under;
✓The mine operator should appoint competent supervisory staff to control the operation at the mine.
✓Make sure everyone understands their safety and heath responsibilities.
✓Encourage the work force to be actively involved in safety and health.
✓Each newly recruited mine workers should receive instructions, guidance and suppervision in their respective work from the supervisor and advocate on the job training before being starting work.
These instructions should include:
✓Introduction to the working environment, health and safety aspect of the task to be assigned.
✓Hazard recognition and avoidance.
✓Hazards relating to explosive ground control and working in areas of high walls.
✓Basic knowledge of first aid.
✓To avoid undercut mining system.
It is the responsibility of inspectorate of mine that after mining accident or dangerous occurance, the mining authority should assist the mine, that improved practice will prevent it from happening again.
